The ALEKS system (for "Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces") is based on research in knowledge space theory and has been supported by National Science Foundation grants. ALEKS is an efficient computer assessment procedure permitting a precise description of the knowledge state of individuals in develomental mathematics at the college level. It is not intended for what are commonly referred to as "tests" and does not typically produce numerical measures of ability. It does however provide for individualized mathematics learning over the World Wide Web.
